District To Draft Campaigning Rules

The Belen school district's attorney said an apology will be made to a campaign worker for a state legislative candidate who complained the worker and others were forced to leave a Belen High School football game for distributing campaign literature.

David Chavez, Republican candidate for the District 29 state Senate seat, told the school board Tuesday that the workers' constitutional rights had been violated at Belen's homecoming game Sept. 15.

"We want to make sure that every person, every candidate, has the ability to campaign and exercise their First Amendment rights," Chavez said. …
