Tactics of Prosecution Questioned in Senate

WASHINGTON Fired nuclear scientist Wen Ho Lee was treated humanely in jail, sometimes even receiving special favors, federal prosecutors and jail officials said Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a U.S. Senate subcommittee quizzed FBI and Justice Department officials about Lee's incarceration at the Santa Fe County Detention Center, as well as the government's controversial case against the former Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist.

Lee was released this month after spending nine months in solitary confinement. Initially charged with 59 counts of national security violations, he pleaded guilty to one count of mishandling nuclear weapons secrets. …
