Personnel from the Albuquerque Police Department and other law enforcement agencies took part in a pepper-ball gun certification class Wednesday at the APD Police Academy.

The nonlethal guns are powered by high-pressure air and shoot .68-caliber plastic balls. The paintball-size projectiles are filled with chemicals.

The impact of the blow and the release of the chemicals are used to subdue suspects. Police officials say they haven't decided whether to buy the weapons. …
