Property Tax Bills To Be Higher.

Overall property tax rates in Sandoval County will be higher this year, but not as high as in 1998.

The 1999 tax rate was lower than in 1998 because of increased population.

"The higher rate is because debt service went up, mainly due to the $2 million library bond issue imposed by the voters in the 1998 election," county spokesman Gayland Bryant said Tuesday.

Three of the five county commissioners in a special meeting Tuesday approved new tax rates, which are calculated by the state. Commissioners Mary Humphrey and Joe Lang were absent.

Deputy Assessor Kay Guadagnoli briefed the commission on the new rates because Assessor Lorraine Dominguez was in Farmington at a national tax assessors' conference. …
