* Guatemalan couple travels to N.M. court to win custody of 6-year-old daughter from adoptive Valencia County parents

LOS LUNAS The natural parents of a 6-year-old Guatemalan girl and the Valencia County family who adopted her seemed to be gracious to one another at one time.

Both families wanted treatment for Michell Marion Johana Tobar Perez, who was born without a lower left leg and with webbed fingers on her right hand. In March 1995, she was brought to New Mexico by Healing the Children, an Albuquerque-based nonprofit organization that helps children obtain necessary medical care. During the 10 months she lived with Don and Rita Naylor at their home near Belen, she had surgery and was fitted for a prosthetic leg. …
