Madrid Still Stalling Probe.(Opinion)


Six months ago, a state district judge granted a petition, signed by nearly 1,000 Taos County voters, for a grand jury investigation into possible malfeasance by Taos County commissioners. The petition and the judge's order were precipitated by voter concern over the county's serious financial problems.

Attorney General Patricia Madrid, whose office frequently conducts this type of investigation, balked at the order, and tried unsuccessfully to back out of the job. Later, a second judge ordered Madrid to convene the jury and get on with the investigation.

The last court order was three months ago, and still nothing has happened. Now, Madrid is ask-ing to delay the investigation for at least another five or six months and maybe indefinitely. …
