Agency Must Still Finalize Guidelines

Some people who suffered losses in the Cerro Grande wildfire in May are leery of the government's claim that it will compensate them fairly.

However, officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which oversees the compensation under the federal Cerro Grande Fire Assistance Act, said all claims of fire losses, including home replacement, will be reviewed according to policy guidelines and rules developed to quickly and fairly reimburse people.

Those guidelines and rules have yet to be finalized, though, and that makes some people fear they may not receive full compensation, said Peter Romero, a public adjuster working in Los Alamos. …
