* Laura Johnson wants a well-rounded life, not simply athletics

Her coach says she could have been an Olympian maybe even still could be an Olympian.

But for 16-year-old Laura Johnson, a four-time New Mexico USA Gymnastics level-10 champion, there's more to life.

"I was thinking about going elite," says the La Cueva junior. "But I'm not ready for the commitment. I'd like to have some social life, not much, but some. My goal is college, not the Olympics."

With just a hint of wistfulness, Albuquerque Gymnastics School coach Joe Camacho says Johnson has real potential.

"If she believed in herself a little more, she could be an Olympian," says Camacho of the 5-foot, 2-inch, 115-pound Johnson. …
