* 'Everyday Epicurean' has some guidance for those looking to diversify in the kitchen

The subtitle of "Everyday Epicurean" (Catherine Bell, Ten Speed Press, $19.95) is "simple, stylish recipes for the home chef." I don't know what your everyday menus look like, but mine rarely include rabbit, let alone its liver, tossed into a food processor along with a few tasty extras and added to a sauce.

Not that "Rabbit with Mushrooms and Thyme" holds no appeal for me. In fact, it sounds great. But I don't think I'll make it after work tonight.

Immediately after perusing the book, however, I did go straight home and throw together one of its pasta dishes, Spaghetti with Arugula, Tomato and Avocado. …
