One Bill Endorses Four Lanes of Traffic

The Montano Bridge was born after nearly three decades of debate and $30 million of construction and other costs.

Tonight, three years after its opening, city councilors are set again to grapple with what role the bridge should play in easing West Side traffic congestion. A City Council committee has two competing bills dealing with the bridge to consider during its meeting tonight.

Councilor Mike McEntee said he expects at least 100 people to attend the meeting.

McEntee's plan would expand Montano Bridge to two lanes of traffic in each direction. Only one lane of traffic now flows each way across the bridge though McEntee says it would take little time or money to add extra lanes because the bridge was built to accommodate four lanes of traffic. …
