* Patriarch's syrup-can violin started the music tradition many years ago

Christine Storey said she grew up in a home that was always loud and lively, not because she had 13 siblings but because almost everyone in the family played a musical instrument.

"I can't remember a day we didn't play music," she said.

Storey said the family tradition of playing music has survived through four generations, but it all started with her dad, J.A. Garcia.

On Saturday, most of the Garcia family gathered at Storey's Rio Rancho home for a reunion to spend time together and celebrate their lives as musicians. …
