Wreck Kills Driver, Forces Evacuations

GLENCOE A tanker truck carrying nonhazardous waste water veered off a highway into a gully and burst into flames Monday, killing the driver and causing the evacuation of nearby homes, police said.

The crash occurred shortly after noon on U.S. 70 near Glencoe, east of Ruidoso.

"It's off the road in an apple orchard," State Police Capt. John Sena said of the Oklahoma-based truck.

Traffic was diverted for several hours around the crash scene through Fort Stanton and Capitan, Sena said.

Jory Shores, who works for GG Trucking in Las Cruces, told the Ruidoso News he was in front of the eastbound tanker when it crashed behind him. …
