AG Says She Needs Additional Money

Attorney General Patricia Madrid has filed a motion to postpone potentially for several months a grand jury investigation of allegations of misconduct in Taos County government.

Madrid said she wants time to seek supplemental funding for the inquiry from the Legislature, which meets for 60 days starting in mid-January.

If granted, Madrid's motion filed Friday in state district court would defer empaneling a grand jury for the probe "pending approval" of her request for additional money for her office.

Taos County residents petitioned for the investigation last year, and it was ordered by District Judge Peggy Nelson in April after she ruled valid a petition signed by 949 registered voters. …
