Presbyterian Medicare Patients Must Drop Doctor or Plan.

About 2,000 elderly patients must switch either their physician or their insurance coverage by Jan. 1 due to changes in Secure Horizons, Presbyterian Health Plan's Medicare HMO.

Presbyterian has begun informing Secure Horizons medical providers the 2001 plan will require that members receive primary care from physicians employed by the Presbyterian Medical Group, which, like the health plan, is an operation of Presbyterian Healthcare Services.

Members had been able to see more than 40 other doctors under contract to Presbyterian.

Patients can keep those physicians if they accept standard Medicare payment, but that will cost patients about twice as much as the HMO option, said Michelle Campbell, executive director of Presbyterian communications and marketing. …
