Clinton Comes to Santa Fe To Boost State Democrats.

* President hobnobs at La Fonda fund-raiser, visits center to endorse law combating domestic violence

SANTA FE President Clinton came to the City Different on Monday to raise money for the state Democratic Party and to urge Congress to reauthorize a law to combat domestic violence.

It was Clinton's first trip to New Mexico's capital city, although he has made nine other visits to the state since he was first elected president in 1992.

Clinton spoke at La Fonda to about 100 people who shelled out as much as $10,000 to hobnob with him at a fund-raiser.

Santa Fe lawyer John Pound, one of the organizers, said the La Fonda event raised about $200,000 for the state Democratic Party.

In another speech earlier in Santa Fe, Clinton urged Congress to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. …
