St. Pius Sends Espanola Valley Packing.(Sports)

A 10-0 rout of visiting Espanola Valley was the perfect way for St. Pius to open the District 2AAAA soccer season Wednesday afternoon even if the Sartans didn't play perfectly.

"We didn't play well," St. Pius coach David Sullivan said. "We could have scored 20 goals."

The game was called in the 39th minute due to the 10-goal mercy rule, which automatically ends any game with a 10-goal difference regardless of how much time has elapsed.

"I tell you, I don't know what to say," Sullivan said. "Espanola is a new program; our girls didn't know they would dominate so heavily. I tried to get them ready for a tough game. …
