Girls Cross Country Team Fights Illness

Still battling health woes, the Moriarty girls cross country team was forced to settle for third place Saturday in the Manzano Invitational at Manzano High in Albuquerque.

The girls meet was won by powerful Class 5A Gallup with 34 points. Los Alamos like Moriarty a Class 4A school finished second with 54 points. Moriarty compiled 74 points and host Manzano was fifth with 123 points.

"We need to get healthy as a team if we are going to compete at the top level," said Moriarty head coach Raul Alvarez. "I believe that will be our number one obstacle this season."

Alvarez hopes the girls team, which finished second at the Class 3A state finals last year, is healthy in time for the District 4AAAA meet on Oct. …
