Homecoming Events Promise Fireworks

Making a cardinal out of chicken wire isn't the easiest thing in the world, but the four classes at Moriarty High School are giving it a shot.

The Moriarty Pintos football team is taking on the Las Vegas Robertson Cardinals in its annual homecoming game Friday night. This means float building for the homecoming parade has its challenges.

The junior class started construction on its float Tuesday behind Jenks Cafe on old Route 66, following the concept of a pinto beating up a cardinal. Transferring the concept to chicken wire seemed to be the hard part.

Amber Woolf was trying to explain the idea of building a bird head to her cohorts as they bent chicken wire around a flattened cardboard box. …
