LAS CRUCES A group of students at New Mexico State University, never known as a hotbed of student dissent, are pushing for less regulation of public speech on campus.

One of them was arrested this week as he protested school policies.

Campus police Monday arrested 24-year-old graduate student Sean Rudolph, who plans to publish an alternative monthly newspaper, as he protested public speech policies by handing out leaflets outside an area designated for public speech.

NMSU has three areas on campus two outside of the student union, Corbett Center, and one on a patch of grass outside of Milton Hall where students can demonstrate and protest after submitting notice to the university. …
