The Bernalillo County Planning Commission has deferred action until December on Campbell Farming Corp.'s proposed East Mountains development because of water and density problems.

Campbell Farming proposes to build 4,023 dwelling units on 8,046 acres bordering the Paa-Ko subdivision east and west of N.M. 14. Campbell Farming's master plan also calls for two golf courses, condominiums and hotels.

The proposal has drawn criticism from some East Mountains residents, who say it does not suit the rural area.

After five hours of testimony from Campbell representatives, county staff, attorneys, a hydrogeologist and the public this month, the planning commission discussed the size of the proposed development. …
