Issue Not Expected To Affect State Races

New Mexico voters continue to be deeply divided on school vouchers, a Journal poll found.

Forty-one percent of voters polled said they generally supported starting a school voucher system in New Mexico, while 40 percent were opposed. Nineteen percent were undecided or had mixed feelings.

Voters were asked: "Generally, do you support or oppose starting a school voucher system in New Mexico?"

A Journal poll conducted in April 1999, although the question was worded differently, found similar division among New Mexico voters on vouchers. …
