Cheney Criticizes Clinton For Reducing Resources

President Clinton has cut the U.S. military's resources but increased its commitments overseas, Republican vice presidential nominee Dick Cheney told an Albuquerque crowd Wednesday.

"It is my contention that the U.S. military is worse off today than they were eight years ago," Cheney said during a campaign speech at Emcore Corp., which designs, develops and manufactures compound semiconductor materials.

Clinton's vice president, Al Gore, is the Democratic Party's presidential nominee.

But Cheney's criticism of the Clinton-Gore administration ignores the role Cheney himself, a former secretary of defense, played in military force reductions, a spokesman for the Gore campaign said. …
