But Hornets Lose Yet Another Starter as Melendez Injures Knee

Homecoming night had an all-too-familiar tone for the Highland High School football team Friday.

The Hornets won convincingly, 34-21 over Goddard at Milne Stadium, but suffered another injury loss in the process.

Highland (4-0) rolled up a comfortable 34-0 before the Rockets put up three late touchdowns to tighten the final margin. But the Hornets were somber afterward because senior running back/linebacker Lorenzo Melendez was helped off the field with a fourth-quarter knee injury.

Though the severity of Melendez's injury wasn't known, he became the fourth Highland starter to go down with a leg injury this season. Fullback O.J. Barreras, running back Mike Powdrell and quarterback Justin Kimbrough already are out for the season. …
