Ancient Olympic Events Required Fast Horses.

The ancient Greeks, if they were to be suddenly transported through time, probably would not recognize many of the events of our modern Olympics.

In the first place, the location is all wrong. In their time, all competitions were held at Olympia. There were fewer events and they were only open to free men who spoke Greek.

Equestrian sports first became part of the Olympics in 1912 during the Stockholm Games. In reality, equestrian sports were a large part of the original Greek Olympics. During laps around the stadium, a 9-mile course challenged competitors in a variety of races. Two- and four-horse teams raced for their piece of glory. …
