Plant Expansion To Force Move

The fate of where more than 1,200 TVI students will convene for the upcoming winter term is unclear as officials try to a find a new home for their Rio Rancho campus that now sits on Intel property.

The computer chip-making company, which announced a colossal expansion in May, this week told officials at Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute the four-portable-room campus must leave the premises by January.

"Our logistics team has looked at a number of different scenarios and other sites on the plant to make room for TVI," Intel spokesman Terry McDermott said. "It's just unfortunate there's not enough room for all the expansion activities and the school."

Students said Friday they fear that moving the campus from the Intel site will limit the variety of classes available.

They also said they hope TVI will keep a presence in Rio Rancho so they don't have to drive 45 minutes to the main campus in Albuquerque. …
