Raises Don't Please All Teachers.

The ranking for teacher pay in the Santa Fe Public Schools improved from 79th to 67th among New Mexico's 89 districts, according to preliminary figures from the state Education Department.

The average teacher salary rose from $30,701 to $32,926 in New Mexico's second most-expensive city after recent raises.

The salary for Superintendent Veronica C. Garcia, who vowed this year not to take a raise as long has she leads the district, moved from the seventh highest to sixth among superintendents. Other superintendent salaries changed while hers remained $99,860 a year.

The state Education Department has not tabulated the results for other positions yet. …
