Taos Curfew Takes Effect at Midnight.

TAOS The town of Taos has stepped up once again for a second swing at enacting a curfew for youngsters under 18 years of age.

The mayor and Town Council passed a curfew that also holds parents responsible in the event their children violate curfew a second time.

Assistant Town Attorney Sarah Backus said the town's original curfew ordinance was repealed in March 2000 after the New Mexico Supreme Court struck down a similar curfew ordinance in Albuquerque.

She said the high court ruled that the state Children's Code pre-empted municipal curfew orders that outlaw activities for juveniles that are legal for adults. …
