Councilor Questions $20,000 D.C. Contract

A Santa Fe City Council member is raising questions about a $20,000-a-year contract paid to a firm to lobby on behalf of the city's water utility in Washington, D.C.

Councilor Matthew Ortiz this week questioned how the Sangre de Cristo Water Co. contract is being paid for and whether it was approved by the council in June's budget talks.

"I have a concern about it," said Ortiz, noting he's asked the administration to provide paperwork on the contract, which is expected this week.

"I didn't see any line item for (the contract)" when lawmakers went over the budget, he said. …
