Q. There is a stand of juniper used as a property line between our land and the neighbor's. They look quite tired. Granted, they don't grow quickly anyhow, but they just look stunted this year. Any suggestions?

A. After picking the juniper owner's brain, I felt bad for them. The trees had received very little if any supplemental watering this HOT, DRY year. Gosh, it would be a wonder if they flourished considering the weather. A good, deep soak even once a month would have been appreciated by the stand.

I asked the owner to bring a sample of the trees to me for inspection to see if there could be anything else contributing to the "tired" look of the junipers. …
