You think the local weatherman has a tough job. Try figuring out the weather on Mars.

That's the kind of endeavor that NASA astrobiologist Chris McKay has dedicated his career to.

McKay will speak about the climatic conditions elsewhere in the universe and possibility of life on Mars and other planets of our solar system this Wednesday in Santa Fe.

It's part of a lecture series sponsored by the LodeStar Astronomy Center in Albuquerque and the Santa Fe Community College.

McKay's primary job is modeling planetary atmospheres. His big-picture interest is on understanding the relationship between physical and chemical evolution of the solar system and the origin of life, according to his NASA biography. …
