Gena Fowler's sculptures depict ugly people with odd things on their heads

It is easy to be critical of the Santa Fe art scene, but once in a while I come across art that I like, that really impresses me. Such is the case with the work of Gena Fowler, now part of a group show at the LewAllen Gallery. (I'm impressed by LewAllen accepting and promoting a new young talent, too. After all, LewAllen has a serious, if not exciting roster, and almost every artist in town has tried to join their stable of more than 100 artists.)

Fowler is making her debut in an exhibition of art ceramics on the second floor of the gallery, a space that often features the more decorative works.

Among 15 groupings, Gena's half-length figures stand out. They are sculptures of ugly people with odd things on their heads. …
