'Across Indian Lands' Features Natural Sounds.

Those wishing a primer in authentic Native American music should listen to "Across Indian Lands" (SOAR, $15.95), a beautiful CD with a cross-section of traditional tribal songs.

Various artists from 10 Indian tribes including a powwow song by Alexander Santos, an Aztec perform songs and chants from their respective tribes in their native language.

For instance, there's "Prayer Song," sung in the Blackfoot language by Kenny Scabbyrobe and the Black Lodge Singers of the Blackfoot Nation; the "Ute Love Song" performed on a hand-carved red cedar flute by Whitewind of the Southern Ute Nation; and the "Hopi Ribbon Song," a ceremonial rite-of-passage song for young Hopi women sung by Will Numkena. …
