Sunland Park Looking To Buy

LAS CRUCES Sunland Park suffered a setback Thursday in its bid to acquire a water and waste-water utility, Santa Teresa Services Co., owned by developer Charlie Crowder and his wife.

The price tag for the utility rose from $2 million the value established through bankruptcy proceedings to about $3 million after a decision by state District Judge Jerald Valentine.

Valentine sided with the utility's bankruptcy court-appointed trustee, Tim DeYoung, who argued that compensation for the utility should include interest starting from the date Sunland Park launched condemnation proceedings in court in August 1996. …
