Eight Players Share Time, Remain Fresh

The University of New Mexico is trying to realize its Elite Eight potential, and it's not even basketball season yet.

Much of the Lobos' football success on defense this season can be attributed to the eight-player rotation at linebacker. UNM is giving up 308 yards a game after allowing 371.4 yards a contest in 1999.

Linebacker play contributed heavily to the Lobos' first victory of the season last week at New Mexico State. Senior David Mauer stripped Aggies quarterback K.C. Enzminger of the ball that senior unit mate Mike Barnett recovered in the fourth quarter. …
