* Commission members say this year's event was friendlier, safer and likely the 'best on record'

The 2000 New Mexico State Fair ranks among the most successful and safest ever, State Fair Commission members said at a Sunday morning meeting at the fairgrounds.

Fair commission chairman Tom Tinnin said it was better planned, better attended by families and experienced fewer incidents of trouble. The annual event ended its 17-day run Sunday night.

Tinnin said attendance and sales figures for admission, concessions, art sales, midway and Tingley events will be released later in the week. …
