Schools Chief Doesn't Think Plans Will Work.

Santa Fe Public Schools Superintendent Veronica C. Garcia isn't convinced that the three education reform plans proposed from a chamber of commerce, a legislative-mandated task force and a think tank will work.

These plans call for substantial changes, some as far as eliminating local school boards, superintendents and even the state Department of Education.

"I think that at this point in time, for each school to have its own board and to have the principal function as a mini-superintendent, I think it could be politicized even more than it is now," she said Friday.

Especially in small towns the pressure on schools could be tremendous, she added. …
