Taos Gives Up Leads To Portales, 53-49

LAS VEGAS In the battle of the north's District 2AAAA and the south's 4AAA, it was an even split during the first round of the 47th Annual Stu Clark Tournament at New Mexico Highlands University.

Capital High rode the unshakable free-throw shooting of junior forward Terance Mirabal to claim a 64-55 victory over Ruidoso (7-2) while Portales overcame a double-digit margin to knock off Taos, 53-49.

Mirabal converted 16 of his 21 free-throw attempts during the game and 14 of 16 in the fourth quarter on his way to a game-high 32 points. Also hitting a crucial 3-pointer midway through the fourth, Mirabal led the Jaguars (5-1) back from a nine-point deficit at the end of the third quarter. …
