Commission OKs Zone Change for Lujan Land.

A zoning variance for Santa Fe County land owned by state Rep. Ben Lujan won approval Thursday from the County Commission, despite staff recommendations against it.

The change, which makes his eight-tenths-of-an-acre plot along N.M. 285 zoned commercial, came on a unanimous voice vote.

Lujan, a longtime Nambe representative, was recently selected by his fellow Democrats to replace Albuquerque's Raymond Sanchez as House Speaker.

No one from the public spoke for or against Lujan's proposal. Lujan was at the meeting but did not address the commission.

The land, near Arroyo Seco, had been zoned residential. Lujan had argued the change was appropriate, as the land was located near other commercial businesses. …
