Tome Land-Sale Money Distribution Questioned

Heirs of the Tome Land Grant want a judge to tell them how he decided on rightful heirs to the land grant and how $4.7 million from the 1968 sale of the 47,000-acre land grant was distributed.

"We've got some questions, and we'd like to have some answers," said Lawrence Sanchez, part of a committee of heirs looking into the circumstances of the sale to Horizon Corp.

In a related effort, the heirs are seeking the return of about 100,000 acres on the west face of the Manzano Mountains they contend rightfully belongs to them. That land was not part of the sale to Horizon. …
