Before the new millennium begins Let me rephrase that Before the real new millennium begins Oh, let's take care of this right now.

All you mathematicians, software designers, SAT overachievers, Virgos and other detail obsessives out there were right when you kept insisting that all the millennial hoopla in 1999 was actually millennial hooey because the year 2000 wasn't the beginning of the new millennium but the end of the old one.

You lost the argument in the end because when science goes up against marketing, we all know it's not a fair fight and I don't care how much RAM your Pentium has.

So now you're posting little reminders hither and yon, like the one on this newspaper's internal home page, which begins like this: "Time 'til the real new millennium: 3 days, 9 hours, 5 minutes, 23 seconds. …
