Great Horned Owls Music to My Ears.(Sports)

The tenor of the election-night news coverage struck like a poorly fingered, ill-timed chord. I thought I'd rather shovel snow. Faced with the daunting task of pushing snow off 120 feet of driveway, I found temporary respite in the sweet music of great horned owls hooting behind the house.

It struck me as odd at first that here it was November, and not one but three owls were calling back and forth to each other. Standing shin-deep in snow in the starry darkness as the last few windborne flakes of the storm wafted by, I listened to the music and stopped thinking about politics for a while.

The trio of owls bandied back and forth, proclaiming aloud what was their own. …
