Assessor Finds Overlapping School Districts.

About 30 square miles of the Moriarty Municipal Schools district, along the district's northern boundary, actually belongs in the Santa Fe School District.

Santa Fe County Assessor Benito J. Martinez Jr. discovered the boundary discrepancy recently when he was updating county maps. About six parcels of ranch land should have been assessed in the Santa Fe school district instead of Moriarty's.

Elna Stowe, superintendent of the Moriarty school district, said the change in assessment won't have much effect on the Moriarty district. There are no students living in the area, she said, and property tax revenue on the ranch land is minimal. …
