Dispatch Center To Close Emergency Calls Go to Santa Fe.

All 911 calls to the Edgewood emergency dispatch center will soon be going to Santa Fe.

The Edgewood center will close on Sunday and all fire, emergency medical and police calls in the southern part of the county will be routed through the county's main dispatch center in Santa Fe.

Emergency calls in Edgewood have gone to the local dispatch center since the Edgewood fire station was built in 1966. A combination of volunteer and professional dispatchers has taken the calls, said Edgewood District Fire Chief Bob Hughes.

"This is the end of an era," Hughes said.

Night dispatching duties have already been transferred to the county center, Hughes said, so shifting the daytime calls shouldn't be much of a problem. …
