Winter Storm Changes Scenery in East Mountains.

* Up to 14 inches of snow keeps police, residents and motels busy

The East Mountains and Estancia Valley were hit hard by a slow-moving snowstorm that started Christmas Day and continued through Tuesday.

The storm kept police and rescue crews busy and forced the state Highway and Transportation Department to close Interstate 40 in both directions through Albuquerque late Tuesday. The road was opened early Wednesday but conditions still made for slow going for commuters.

By Wednesday morning, as much as 14 inches of snow had fallen in Edgewood, 7 inches in Moriarty and 4 inches in Estancia, according to the National Weather Service. …
