Land Uses Balanced With Population Rise

A monumental effort to help chart the course of growth in Valencia County is coming to an end, with the first two chapters of a comprehensive plan scheduled to be considered by the County Commission next month.

"I ran my campaign five years ago on the promise that the county needed a comprehensive plan to manage growth, and I'm glad to see it's becoming a reality," Commission Chairwoman Alicia Aguilar said.

The 400-page plan has chapters on land use, transportation, infrastructure and public facilities, environmental and natural resources, economic development and historic preservation, said County Planner Steven Chavez, who began work on the document about 2 1/2 years ago. …
