Lobos Visit Oregon State In a Conference Tuneup.(Sports)

CORVALIS, Ore. University of New Mexico women's basketball coach Don Flanagan says Oregon State is the equivalent of an upper-echelon Mountain West Conference team.

With that in mind, Lobos senior guard and captain Nikki Heckroth says the timing of tonight's game against the Beavers in Gill Coliseum is perfect.

The Lobos open the MWC season Jan. 7 in the Pit against No. 23-rated Utah in an ESPN2 nationally televised game.

Oregon State (6-2) is unofficially ranked 30th nationally.

"They look the equal of Colorado State or UNLV," Heckroth says. "It will be a good test to play a team like that on the road right before conference. …
