Brothers tackle long hike.(Outdoors & Recreation)

The Smith brothers of Cedar Crest don't do things halfway. Thus, sometime next May having walked 2,200 miles from Key West, Fla., to somewhere in Virginia via a serpentine network of hiking trails through Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina they'll keep right on going.

And going and going, across a sliver of West Virginia and into Maryland. Through Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York state, Connecticut Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine

Finally, sometime in October or maybe November Mike and Jeff Smith will reach their destination: the Cape Gaspe Peninsula in the Canadian province of Quebec, some 4,400 miles from Key West. They will have traversed what has come to be known as the Eastern Continental Trail.

Along the way, they will have waded through swamps, forded swollen streams and dealt with all sorts of weather conditions not to mention the totally unexpected. …
