Retiring Lawyer Sets Example.(Opinion)

Santa Fe attorney Albert Gonzales Sr. announced his retirement last week. He says he means it, this time. He deserves a rest. Now 88, he's spent more than 60 years in the practice of law, much of it representing the poor and desperate. His son, also a lawyer, called Gonzales Sr. a one-man "Legal Aid before there really was Legal Aid."

Perhaps because of his practice, Gonzales made his money on the side in real estate in his adopted Santa Fe. He ran for office and was elected several times to the school board, the county commission and, twice, to the Legislature. …
