Retired Police Captain Starts Own Private Investigations Firm

A recently retired Rio Rancho police captain said he wishes the homicide of a slain flight attendant had been solved before he left.

"My biggest regret during my career was that during the time that I was supervising criminal investigations, we weren't able to solve the Stephane Murphey homicide," Karl Wiese said Tuesday during an interview at the Village Inn in Rio Rancho.

Murphey, 37 at the time of her death, was last seen alive on April 15, 1999, when a neighbor saw her vehicle arriving at her North Hills home around dusk, according to Tanya Hicks, a private investigator hired by Murphey's family. Murphey was found dead on April 19, 1999, in her car in the parking lot of the Warren Coronado Apartments in Albuquerque. …
