As mighty four-by-four trucks and SUVs skidded and slid on Santa Fe's brown, slushy streets Tuesday, Gina Bilwin found a more reliable means of locomotion cross-country skis.

Bilwin, a city resident who pushed her way just after noon along West Alameda Street, had simple inspiration to do so.

"The snow," she said when asked about her reasons.

"From the cars, I've gotten more smiles than strange looks," Bilwin said after crossing the Galisteo Street bridge.

The National Weather Service reported between 4 and 6 inches of snow by mid-Tuesday falling in and around Santa Fe, with light flakes continuing to fall. …
